NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation Review

The newest foundation to launch from Nars has all of us 'Sheer Glow' Lovers talking about it and scrambling to buy it! Released on February 1st 2015 worldwide at £33 (yes i purchased the day it released and it arrived 2 days later *woopwoopthe Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation claims to be a luminous yet weightless foundation that can cover imperfections. I had to try it for myself to see if i could love it more than my sheer glow.

The All day Luminous foundation is medium to full coverage and buildable without it looking too cakey. It is a thin almost runny consistency, which makes it super easy to blend out and feels super light on the face. A little really does go a long way with this foundation. Narsissist claims that you only need 1 pump for your whole face, I like a light coverage and i use use 1-2 pumps. I like that it is fragrance-free.You’ll find that this formula easily covers redness, discolorations and evens out your skin tone with minimal product use.

I find applying with fingers works well and encourages the foundation to really merge with the skin. It also applies beautifully with a brush, but my favourite method of application is with a beauty blender. The only problem with using the beauty blender is that it absorbs too much of the product and i find myself using more product. Sometimes doing this without realising it i am overloading my face, then once i add powder on top I'm heading into 'cake face' territory. So i find using all methods works well for me, my fingers to apply over the face, my real techniques buffing brush to buff into the skin and my damp beauty blender to soften and give a more natural and flawless airbrushed look.

I find the foundation is way longer lasting than my sheer glow and several of my other foundations in my collection, and unlike the SG it doesn't wear away in my oily areas. I didn't find it made me more oily either but it does accentuate my dry areas around my nose, mouth and center of the forehead. I have a love & hate relationship with this foundation, i love the finish but i hate how it doesn't work well with my combination skin. This is a bit of a high maintenance foundation, so you really have to prep your face beforehand, meaning exfoliated and well hydrated skin. I wore the foundation once after i had a reaction to a face mask which dried out my skin, it made me look awful i almost cried. Luckily my beauty blender and mac fix+ came to the rescue. The NARS All Day Luminous Weightless foundation can also enhance my large pores slightly so i highly recommend using a pore minimising primer on problem areas like large pores and uneven skin texture. I have to set the foundation with a powder in my t-zone as that is where i am oily, however i leave the rest of the face. I only have to touch up with powder once throughout the day about 8/9 hours after it was first applied. The foundation has even tone technology which helps to cover up redness and imperfections. It does remove the natural dimension of the face so you will need to contour slightly and add some colour to your cheeks to bring that dimension back. I feel this foundation is more of a Demi Matte/satin finish that adds a subtle glow, but i wouldn't say it is a a dewy finish. It generally just looks photoshopped on the skin. The only flaw i have with it is that it comes away around the nose and gets into creases and pores. A primer helps with the pores but i find within minutes it looks dry and almost crusty around my mouth.

I find that this foundation does not oxidise on my skin throughout the day. What you see in the bottle is what you get, so make sure you choose the correct shade. If you are unsure of your shade Nars has a foundation matrix where you can upload your photo (even if you have foundation on in your photo, as if its your correct foundation shade it will match it to that) and have the matrix match you to the correct shade. Sometimes it can match you to two different shades. I was matched to Punjab which i am also in sheer glow. It is the lightest of the medium shades.

Overall Thoughts | I have mentioned i have a love/hate relationship with this foundation but the pro's outweigh the cons. My favourite season to wear the All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation is during the spring months and the transition between summer and fall, when  my skin isn't as dry. I say these months because it is not transfer resistant and can be removed easily with water or sweat, hence why i do not wear during the hot summer months. It definitely works best on normal and oily skin-types. It is very long wearing, looks flawless on the skin (if you have exfoliated your skin), for the price and how much product is used with each application i find it good value for money and there is a good selection of shades. It holds up well in photographs also with no flashback. I would recommend this foundation, especially for fellow oily skin types. Dry skin types i would recommend a silicone based primer to smooth out any dry areas and a thick hydrating moisturiser.

I also picked up the soft velvet loose powder in desert.

The NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation retails for £32 in the UK and is available to purchase from many online retailers like Nars directly, John Lewis & Space NK. It retails for $48 in the USA and is available from Sephora.
