Did you know that 'The Dolce Vita' in Italian translates to The Sweet Life? I guarantee that this palette is likely to add a touch of sweetness to your life. So, following my Charlotte Tilbury makeup Collection post (see here) I decided to do individual posts on some of my favourite items from her Cosmetics line. This post is on the infamous 'Dolce Vita' Luxury Eyeshadow Palette. This is probably Charlotte's most popular of all the colour coded eyeshadow palettes. This will be my first of my weekly Charlotte Tilbury Exclusive, where i will be writing about a different Charlotte Tilbury product all week...
After purchasing The Sophisticate Luxury palette back in 2014 and growing very fond of it, i decided to splurge and buy four more ( yes four *gulp ) of the Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eye palettes. Of course the beautiful Dolce Vita Palette had to be one of them. Each of Charlotte's high-calibre quality palettes contains four eyeshadows, housed within a small beautiful vintage burgundy ( or maroon ) compact, with rose gold accents. The quad oozes Luxury and Elegance. Each compact has an interior mirror to help you apply your eyeshadow up close with ease. The 'colour coded' shades help you to create that gorgeous smokey eye look that Charlotte has made her signature look over the years. Each quad contains just 5.2g of product which is just a little bit less than a MAC quad which comes in at just under 6g. However the quality is far more superior than that of MAC.
The Dolce Vita palette itself contains warm-golden coppery tones, which suit brown and hazel eyes beautifully. The quad contains eyeshadows with a mix of matte, shimmer and glittery finishes. All of the colours in the quad work together incredibly well, which can be used to achieve either a natural eye look or a more dramatic evening look.
Each eyeshadow within the palette all have a separate role to Prime ( base shade ), Enhance ( crease shade to create depth ), Pop ( to bring out the center of the eye ) and Smoke ( to smoke out the outer lid and bottom lashline ). With the perfect colour mixtures and easy smooth formula you will be creating smoky eyes like a pro before you know it. Each eyeshadow shade has the potential to be worn alone as well as paired with others to create an array of eye looks.
The Prime shade i would describe as a satin brightening champagne.
The Enhance shade i would describe as a warm reddish cognac brown ( the best shade in the palette ).
The Pop shade i would describe as pigmented coppery-bronze glitter.
The Smoke shade i would describe as a dark matte brown with a slight satin finish.
- The Prime Shade can be used as a highlighter in the inner corner and underneath the eyebrow and it can also be applied all over the mobile lid to unify the look. It's best described as a pretty brightening champagne, that is creamy smooth to the touch. It is like a subdued metallic shimmer.
- The Enhance shade is ideally the transition shade for the crease but it can also be applied all over the lid to add some dimension. Best described as a warm cognac brown with a deep red undertone, it also has a silky smooth finish.
- The Smoke shade will intensify and smoke out anywhere you ant extra drama ( as the name suggests ). I like to apply it to the outer cover of the eye blending upwards to diffuse and add that alluring smoky look, and i also like to use it sometimes on the bottom lash-line ( on the outer corner ) to add dimension, depth and lift my hooded eyes. Again it is rich and creamy in texture.
- Pop is a pressed glitter pigment, its more opaque and ich in colour than a traditional glitter shadow. It is beautiful packed all over the lid, or just placed in the center of the eyelid to make your eyes pop. I find with this particular shadow that it applies best using my finger, for the smoothest intense finish. Unlike other glitters this is very wearable, making it flattering for all all ages ( mature ladies don't have to skip out on this palette ). The shade is a beautiful rich warm coppery-bronze that stands out without being too obnoxious.
All of the eyeshadows are very finely milled, soft and easy to blend. However i do find that the glitter shades in the palettes swatch better on my fingers than they transfer onto my lid using a brush, which is why i recommend using the warmth of your fingers to apply them. My personal favourites in all of the palettes are the Enhance & Smoke shades. .
The Dolce Vita palette retails for £38 in the UK and $52 in the USA ( Through Beautylish ) which can feel rather over priced considering the quantity, considering it's the same price as an Urban Decay Naked palette or a Stila eyes are the window palette. However taking the quality into consideration and comparing it to the Tom Ford or Suqqu palettes i can justify the price. I do feel that even though the packaging is ascetically pleasing the luxury eyeshadow palette packaging is cheaply made. But i guess its one of those your paying for the product inside situations, which is justifiable. The luxury eye palettes are the cheapest packaged items in her whole makeup line, the material is very light and flimsy. Obviously the luxurious weighted packaging in the Tom Ford eyeshadow palettes reflects in it's price ( though Tom ford palettes contain more product than Charlottes ); but i do feel like the luxury eyeshadow palettes could have been made a bit more weighted so that they are more reliable for travel. I don't risk take the palettes out in my makeup bag! I also dont find that the glue holding the shadows is strong, i have experienced my shadows falling out in a few of the quads now ( ugh ) . It's something i have found with Tom Ford palettes also, i guess they could learn from some of the cheaper brands like sleek and urban decay - to use stronger glue! I could understand weaker glue if your plan was to depot them. I may not take these travelling but they make for a perfect everyday item getting ready at hoe in front of my vanity.
Despite the small fault with the packaging and glue, i really do like the Charlotte Tilbury luxury palettes. The shades within this palette are ideal for a neutral lover like myself and my lifestyle. The Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadows really are some of the best on the market ( along with Viseart & Makeup Forever ) and they are most comparable to Tom Ford shadows ( not surprising seeing as Charlotte worked for Tom Ford and clearly had a big influence over his products ). I would recommend this eyeshadow palette to anyone who loves smooth high-quality eyeshadows, enjoys luxury or high-end makeup and is a neutral eyeshadow lover. The Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eyeshadow palettes make for wonderful gifts for people too, i guarantee no lady wil be sad if you treat her to one of these little beauties.
