Urban Decay Naked Smoky Review & Swatches

* Purchased

I got all giddy as i practically ripped open the box in excitement to play with this palette. My first impression of the Smoky palette was how much cooler the packaging looked, the smoke print really embodies the theme and the eyeshadow shades within the palette beautifully. The smoke print along with the platinum embossed lettering gives it an edgy look and i love, love, love the transparent background, it really is visually stunning! I am fond of the magnetic closure instead of the generic click shut packaging that the past two naked Palettes have had. The palette in general feels more robust and appears to be much better quality.
Urban Decay you really knocked the design out of the park....

In my opinion i feel that this is the best Urban Decay Naked packaging to date. The palette is made up of thick plastic and feels more robust, it is durable yet lightweight. A long with its magnetic closure, large interior mirror and amazing quality duo ended blending brush, i see this palette being fantastic for travel. The brush included is fabulous, i personally love the brushes that come with the Urban decay palettes ( and i have all 4 of the naked palettes ).
Urban Decay really are one of my favourite brands because they continue to constantly produce top quality products. Whenever i have beginners asking me which eyeshadows i recommend i instantly recommend Urban Decay, in fact it was the Naked 1 that formulated my love for eyeshadows.

Upon first glance this palette could appear intimidating to some, with the illusion that all of the eyeshadows are too deep for day-time wear; but when you look closely you will see that there are quite a few lighter shades making this ideal for everyday wear. The Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette has a nice mixture of Mattes, Shimmers and Metallics with an equal proportion of warm and cool shades. All of the colours in the palette are very well thought out ( something too faced could take on board with their chocolate bar palettes ). Every single colour in the palette is simply stunning the broad range of shades and undertones in this palette make this perfect to cater to everyone of any complexion, skin-tone and age.

The Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette contains 12 eyeshadows, 9 of which are brand new never seen before shades!! Yay... i love that it contains one of my all time favourites shade 'smolder' it is an oldie but a goodie. Every shade, regardless of it's finish feel velvety smooth to the touch and swatch equally brilliantly. As to be expected with the infamous Urban Decay eyeshadows, every eyeshadow is super pigmented, offering rich colour pay-off and has amazing longevity ( which is perfect for me as i always forget to use a primer lol ). The eyeshadows are delightful to pack onto the lids and i don't experience any fall out with the shimmer shades ( which like in the previous Naked palettes are the most pigmented ) and i experience very little fall-out with the matte shades ( which is to be expected with super soft matte eyeshadows ). I like how the shadows are grouped into sections too, with the first four being Shimmery eyeshadows, the following four Metallic-Satin finishes and the last four are the matte finishes. Absolute Genius...

The shades are:

High - Shimmery Cream with a slight touch of Champagne Gold micro-glitter.
Dirtysweet - Shimmery Warm Golden-Bronze with a slightly subtle rosy undertone.
Radar - Pale Metallic Taupe with iridescent fine Micro-glitter ( It is the least pigmented in the palette, but it works best teamed with other shades).
Armor - Metallic Shimmery Silver Grey with Sparkle Glitters
Slanted - Light Cool toned Shimmery Grey
Dagger - A Medium Charcoal Smoky Grey with a slight deep blue undertone ( this shade puts the 'Smoke' into the palette).
Black Market - Satin Charcoal based Black ( very much like Mac typographic )
Smolder - Deep Plum with Taupe-Grey undertones ( one of my all time favourites
Password - Matte Cool Taupe-Grey
Whiskey - Matte Medium-Rich dark brown
Combust - Matte Fleshy Nude Pink with Slight Taupe Undertones ( such a beautiful colour
Thirteen - Satin Cream, almost white ( this is a bit chalky so enhances fine lines )

Swatches
L-R: High,  Dirtysweet, Radar & Armor
L-R: Slanted, Dagger, Black Market & Smolder
L-R: Password, Whiskey, Combust & Thirteen

Unlike past Naked launches, the Smoky palette includes a handy fold-out step by step guide containing four various looks which are easy to follow. I think this has fast become one of my favourite palettes, i find it more versatile than Naked 2 and 3. My Naked 1 and Naked Basics 2 will always have a firm place in my heart. Honestly this is by far one of my best makeup purchases in a long time.

There is a good reason why The Urban Decay Naked palettes are cult products among us beauty lovers and that is because they really are an amazing brand, Fantastic quality and are great value for your money too.

The Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette retails for £38 in the UK and is available to purchase directly from Urban Decay, Debenhams ( where i purchased mine ) and Selfridges
It retails in the USA for $54 and is available to purchase from Sephora and Ulta.
