Now that the colder months are here and my skin has changed slightly i have found my perfect everyday face base combination. I have totally combination skin, and don't know why my skin cannot seem to make up it's mind how it wants to be. I am usually normal all over but oily in the t-zone with dry patches occasionally, but during the colder months my skin is more dry and dehydrated with only the occasional bit of oil in the center of my forehead and the sides of my nose. I recently hauled a few base makeup items and have added them to my everyday makeup routine....
The first item i apply ( after moisturiser of course ) to prep my face for my make is my Makeup Forever Step One Smoothing Primer, which i apply to any areas i get oily in my t-zone or places i have uneven skin texture (usually around my nose ). I have only been using it for a few weeks and i love it. I purchased the small 15ml size as i wasn't sure how i was going to feel about it. It smooths the skin blurring imperfections but it doesn't have that heavy, slippery silicone feel like the Benefit Porefessional primer, therefor it doesn't clog my pores. It just looks just like my skin but smoother and i find my foundation holds to it better. Due to my skin being dryer i have been teaming it with either the By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Primer or the Rodial Instaglam Airbrush Primer as both are extremely hydrating on my skin which is just what i need at the moment. Both can also be worn alone with no makeup as they help to create an airbrushed look to the skin.
I don't sleep well at all on weekdays, I am one of those people who feels like if i go to sleep i am missing out on life and i get around 5 hours each night often broken sleep with a 1 year old. It does affect my skin though and i have obvious dark circles and look tired, therefor concealer is a product i have to wear on a daily basis if i go out. I always use a corrector first before applying any concealer and recently i have been loving the Mac Prep + Prime Highlighter pen in Peach Lustre. It is a very dark orange and is aimed at deeper skin-tones but i find the darkness helps to counteract the mix of red, blue and purple that i have going on under my eyes. It does look very orange on my skin-tone but once foundation and concealer is applied over top my under eyes look bright and i appear more awake, I find it to be a great under eye primer too for my concealer. If i am wearing a sheerer foundation i will use a mixture of the Prep + Prime Highlighting Pen in Bright Forecast with it to achieve the perfect shade. I only cover the dark areas not the whole under eye.
I have been loving my Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation. Described as a super light Youth-Boosting perfect skin foundation with an spf of 15. I have barely picked up another foundation this season apart from a few that i am testing here and there. It looks naturally illuminating on the skin and feels equally amazing, my skin looks just like skin but better and more radiant. I am definitely one for more natural makeup. I have the shade 5 medium and its pretty much a perfect match for me ( I am a MAC NC25-30 for reference ) though i think come mid winter i may need shade 4. I love that it is oil free and fragrance free, as it is a water based formula it looks very natural on the skin and i find it to be hydrating and comfortable to wear. It is a light to maybe buildable medium coverage but i personally prefer to wear just one layer of foundation, as i hate feeling foundation on my face and that way my freckles still peek through, then if i desire an extra bit of coverage in some areas i use a few dots of the Charlotte Tilbury Magic foundation over top. More details on the Magic foundation will follow in an upcoming blog post.

I team the foundation with the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in custard which has amazing full coverage and covers the orange from the corrector under the eyes. It is super creamy and thick but sheers out beautifully when i use a Beauty Blender Sponge. Custard is the shade down for me, Ginger is the perfect shade match but i like my concealer to brighten also. I find if i want a natural everyday look i tend to dot my concealer and if i want a more full coverage highlighted look i swipe the concealer in a triangle. Naturally because i have fine lines, excess skin ( from ageing & pregnancies ) and hollowness under my eyes from lack of sleep i find that ALL concealers crease on me, it is just unavoidable and now that i know my under eyes will never look like the other perfect 20 something beauties on Youtube i accept my own skin and imperfections. However, the Nars creamy concealer creases the least out of all of them without drying my under eyes out more and believe me i have tried a lot of concealers but i always come back to this. I have introduced a collagen based eye cream to help restore plumpness under my eye. I'm pretty blessed with good skin so don't use the concealer over my face, but if i have a blemish coming up i will also use this to spot conceal. There are some days i set under my eyes with a powder and some days that i do not, as powder obviously dries out the under eye area and my eyes are already dry, so much so that at times they can feel sore. When i do set the concealer under my eyes my holy grail powder is the Nars Translucent Crystal Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder, i don't like to bake under eyes again because it will dry my under eyes out even more, but i do use a Bobbi Brown Powder Puff folded in half and just lightly press under the eyes, then i use a large, soft fluffy brush to blend the excess powder away.
Finally i set the rest of my face with my Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powder using my favourite multitasking brush the Sephora Pro Airbrush 55 brush. I am in the shade No.20, the only thing that is not great about Chanel powders is that they lean more towards the pink side and obviously i have a yellow undertone, however the Chanel powder is so lightweight on the skin and gives the skin a healthy natural glow the pink-ness isn't noticeable. I don't find it gets cakey at all and lasts all day, i cannot wear this in the summer time as it does not help to combat my oils but in the winter this is holy grail for me. I also like that it has an spf of 15 and the fragrance is one of my favourite smell's ever.Occasionally if i want a little extra light to the center of my face i reach for my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim light for the ethereal candlelit glow.
Not shown in the group photo but a necessity for helping my makeup stay in place all day is a setting/finishing spray. Currently I am loving a spritzing a few sprays of the Pixi Beauty Makeup Fixing Mist across my face. It is not as fine as some of the other setting sprays i own, but it is long-wearing and keeps my makeup in place all day, plus it smells amazing having rose water and green tea infused within it. I just use my beauty blender over any areas it applied a bit too much mist and fan down my face. The key to a flawless face base is the preparation before hand so i will also be doing my currently skincare post over the next couple of weeks just in time for winter time, so keep your eyes peeled.
